Features and resources accessible from the UniProt web site.
The most efficient and user-friendly way to browse the UniProt databases is via the UniProt web site at http://www.uniprot.org. The web site provides database query and data mining mechanisms, user support and communication, file download capabilities, and links to related resources.
Menu Bar Structure
The menu bar is organized into five major categories:
About UniProt: Includes Background, News, Contact information, Publications by the UniProt consortium, and lists of Staff maintaining and developing UniProt.
Getting Started: Includes website Introduction (this page), a Frequently Asked Questions page and Site Map.
Searches/Tools: Includes Text Search, BLAST sequence similarity search, and a Useful Tools/Links page highlighting some of the extra services offered by UniProt consortium members on their home sites. These extra services include other types of sequence similarity searches, multiple sequence alignments, proteomics tools such as protein identification by physicochemical property, and links to pages listing comprehensive external resources.
Databases:
Includes search pages for the UniProt Archive (UniParc), a comprehensive
non-redundant collection of the protein sequences in public databases,
including historical entries, the UniProt Knowledgebase (UniProtKB), our
flagship database with rich annotation and extensive cross-referencing,
and the UniProt Reference Clusters databases (UniRef), clustered sets of
UniProtKB proteins (and selected UniParc records) based on 100%
(UniRef100), 90% (UniRef90) or 50% (UniRef50) sequence identity. It also
includes database and documentation Download services by anonymous FTP.
